The Art of Life
Photobucket I'm so glad you're here! "The Art of Life" is where I share my journey as an artist & Momma. It's a place where I hope to encourage other women that they are artists too. In this small little space I seek to share, document, and be reminded of God's wonderful grace, all around us. ....And I would be so happy to have you journey alongside me! So grab a cup of coffee and linger for a while. I hope you leave feeling refreshed. Photobucket

Pretty Dresses

~~Well, yesterday wasn't a bad day, but I did struggle a bit with the "Monday Blues." I'm not sure why but I just couldn't seem to get inspired to do any art. I got out some different reference photos and played around with ideas but nothing felt right and I think I was just in a funk. I'm determined not to carry that over to today. It's a new day and a fresh start!
~~This weekend the girls were watching the movie Andre. It's truly such a cute movie and I don't think I've ever heard the girls giggle so much during one show. It became an instant favorite with them. The movie is based on the true story of a family in Maine who rescued an orphaned baby seal and nursed him back to health.
~~It's set in the early 60's and I found myself totally enamored with the outfits, especially the ones worn by Toni, the little girl; sweet little sailor dresses, pinafore jumpers, maryjanes and criss-cross sandals. So stinkin' cute!! What has happened to all the cute, modest, girly, innocent clothes anymore!? When I walk in the kid's section I'm surrounded by a sea of "Hannah Montana," ugh! I really don't want my girls wearing trashy little mini skirts and blinged out tees with "Secret Pop Star" emblazoned across the front.
Nope. Not for us!
~~After seeing the movie I did a little web surfing for more inspiration and came across this site:
Heavens to Betsy Vintage.
It's a treasure trove!
I found myself pouring over all the wonderful vintage children's patterns and wishing I'd paid more attention when my Mom tried to teach me to sew in Junior High, lol.

~~So cute right?! As a girl who tends to wear jeans and a comfy sweater most of the time, I have to admit that it would be a bit fun to dress like this:

~~All it needs is a frilly apron and some pearls.
Oh wait!
I'd probably just get paint all over it. Hmmm.
Oh well!
~~Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Definitely my speed. Did you notice the ladies size 12 is for a 32" bust? Sizing sure has changed a lot in the last 40 years!

Those pattens come with directions. :)

I love vintage patterns! They are so neat! I think they work well for the kids for sure! I wish I'd appreciated my mom's sewing more when she was doing things for me.

Hi Kasie

I am with you, it should not be difficult to dress a little girl in appropraite clothing. We also try and avoid commercial brands.

I am finding myself loving vintage prints, books etc, etc more and more with each new day. I love the innocence in them.

The Winnie the Pooh room you did for your girls was amazing - the detail and the colour was phenomenal. I loved looking at the pictures of this room. I am sure the new room you are all working on will be just as exquisite.

Kasie, any more news on whether or not, you are going to sell any of your work. I am not meaning to be pushy (and I hope that you don't take it that way), but I would love to know if it is perhaps a possibility. Insert me begging here as I think your vintage prints are charming!!

Lots of love and hugs to you
Elise

Just put the frilly apron over your pretty dress and let the paint fly! Too cute! I didn't pay attention to my mom when she tried to teach me how to sew while I was growing up. But now, I LOVE to sew. It is as relaxing as painting. Give it a try. The first few outfits might be scary, but after that it's a breeze.
