The Art of Life
Photobucket I'm so glad you're here! "The Art of Life" is where I share my journey as an artist & Momma. It's a place where I hope to encourage other women that they are artists too. In this small little space I seek to share, document, and be reminded of God's wonderful grace, all around us. ....And I would be so happy to have you journey alongside me! So grab a cup of coffee and linger for a while. I hope you leave feeling refreshed. Photobucket

Little Angel "Faith"~Fluid Acrylics on Canvas

(Click for a clearer, larger view.) "Faith" Acrylic on Watercolor Canvas~16" x 20" ~Copyright 2008 and Beyond ~Kasie Sallee

~~This is my newest angel "Faith." She was incredibly fun and challenging at the same time. It shows as blurry in this smaller resolution. You'll have to click on it to see it more clearly.

~~Children are the truest examples of unwavering faith. They believe whole-heartedly. I've seen this in my own girls time and time again. When they pray they simply trust that God has heard them and everything will be okay. Because of this faith, children don't live with the worries and stresses that we adults have. Oh to have a child-like heart!

~~On a side note; do any of you all have tips on how to get the very best digital file of your artwork? I currently take a photograph and tweak it in Photoshop and yet I can never seem to get the image 100% true to the actual piece. Any advice or thoughts would be great.

~~Happy Thursday!

Beautifully done! The light on her hair is really well done.

I wish I had advice on digital photographs - I struggle with the same problem. I've sometimes photograph on a sunny day in the shade, but sometimes this results in too cool tones... sometimes I photograph in direct sunlight, too. Hopefully someone else has some good tips on this topic!

Hello Kasie, at first I want to say you are doing rally beautiful work.
Regarding digital photographs.
I also put my work outside and photograph them and usually I am happy with the result after adjusting them.
When I do the photo in sunshine, it is just too light and then I cannot really adjust them. When I do them in shadow the colours seem to be very cool, but I then often only need to adjust them a bit, like adding a bit of contrast, change the colourbalance a bit. This really helps me. Using only simple daylight not directly in the sun is the best way.
Now I have a german version of photoshop so I cannot translate which adjusting tools I am using, because the english names are different for them.
But I can give you a link where you will find great ideas about doing the best of your photos in photoshop.

There are a lot of articles and I hope this helps a bit.

Kasie, this is lovely. I agree with what's been said here, although I too have been struggling to do this lately too. Here is a post by Steve Chipman that shows the effect the camera you use can make.

Thank you! You all are wonderful. I'm going to check out those links. I have a great camara, which I love, and I do take my photos outside.
It just seems like I'm never able to fully capture the range of colors and the subtle colors that are in the painting; especially skin tones.
I guess it's all a learning process.

It looks great! I love the expression on her face! bravo!

I usually try photographing on all types of settings and then trying to tweak. I was thinking about submitting my last drawing, the tilandsia to a contest and ended up having it scanned at Kinko's and then editing in Photoshop. I won't do that again because it was so $$$!

Alas, I will try the suggestions here.

What sort of lens are you using? A photographer friend of mine recommended a 50mm lens for taking photos of my work, and its working wonderfully.

This is the one I use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007E7JU

The exif data on your image shows you've got a Canon DSLR too, so that one would, of course, work with your camera.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Well done, Kasie! I keep saying you are the "queen" of hair and this proves it once again.

Look at those hands! The whole piece is so well done :)

I can't really offer any advice on taking photos of your work. Any that I'm releasing as prints I get professionally photographed/scanned, and of the photos I've taken myself, I'm not even sure if they're right, because they're going to show up differently on everyone's monitors anyway! I end up tweaking stuff in Photoshop for so long!

Good morning Kasie,
I'm an artist young at heart, Marge and I are retired and we recently joined Fine Art to display and sell our art. Each morning before going to our studio, I sit and have some coffee, and as a treat I visit several websites, to learn, mostly to enjoy the wonders and all the beauty--today I visited your website. Thank you is the best way I know to express how loving your work is, the children and their faces is heart felt. We have 5 grandchildren so we get more time to see our children all over again. In my website I write a section I call "stories", like your blog, and I share some aspect of a painting--it's my journey about life. Most of my work shown is watercolor, some oil and now I am starting to paint in acrylics. I like your reverence and Faith in God, for me Jesus helps me by the moment, guiding, nourishing, encouraging, laughing, crying,
celebrating, loving and protecting. All that I am is because of Jesus spread the good news with your friends and sharing your journey is very good. Keep painting and loving your family--love is all that abides--the rest will pass away--many blessing--
Forgot to say keep that smile coming--brightens everyones day that sees you--

Kasie, this is absolutely wonderful!!! God must really need for people to hear this message right now because I'm currently working on a painting that is about having a child-like faith in God. Amazing!!!!!

Now, tips on photographing....I use a Canon XT Digital Rebel (which is a digital SLR) mounted on a tripod to take my photos for online and for art prints. I use a collapsible light tent from Tabletop Studio and three full spectrum bulbs at 150 watts each. Here's a pic of my light tent setup "click here"

Blessings & hugs,
Paulette
