~~Here's an update like I promised. It's coming along, slowly but surely. So much will change on this. The hair will have some darkening in places and some softening. The skin is just beginning to take form.
~~The only way I can think to describe the way I work (both in colored pencil and paint) is to compare it to putting together a puzzle. I work in thin, semi-translucent layers. So layer by layer, piece by piece, the image comes together. It can be very time-consuming but I find it to be relaxing. (Unless I'm thinking too much!) The end result is that the piece has a richness and depth of color that is very unique. But it also means that it goes through some strange and ugly stages. Earlier her skin was actually very green, lol. I always have to remind myself that it will look better after more layers.

Kasie, I'm sending you an award! Check my blog if you want to participate.
Your painting is coming along wonderfully! I think it looks great at every stage - so much fun to see the process :)
Absolutely stunning. Even in it's beginning stages. And your new avatar is beautiful as well!
What a beautiful creation Kasie. This piece of work is stunning. I am looking forward to seeing the finished piece - no doubt it will take my breath away.
Wow.
WOW.
It is gorgeous!
A few questions, do you work from a photo? How do you decide which colors go first, start with the shading and finish with highlights? Are you working in acrylic and then water it down?
Have you ever thought of doing an online class, cause I would sign up, and last but not least, did you go to art school or are you naturally gifted?
I know lots of questions, if you have the time...
I am really impresses, it is super beautiful and you handle the light so beautifully...
I am standing on the abyss of painting and am feeling so intimidated!
Keep up the good work!
I second all Nomads questions :)
It is so amazing to see the unfolding process. I can't help but wonder if this is the way God see's his works in progress! So much beauty and potential as he works, yet like you say the strange and ugly stages stand out at times. Our human nature tends to focus on the strange and ugly. Thus comes the discouragement and impatience we struggle with thru these times as a result of our not being able to see thru his eyes.
Patience is definetely a virtue is it not!
Kasie, this work and what your sharing speaks so much. Thank you for sharing such beauty with us. And like others I look forward to seeing this finished!
I'm glad I made you smile:) I still havn't found that camera!!!!
Kasie,
I think this is wonderful! The details make this so realistic - the way you did the hair and the shadows. The hair is as if touched by the sun. You are definitely gifted by God! You inspire me :)
