The Art of Life
Photobucket I'm so glad you're here! "The Art of Life" is where I share my journey as an artist & Momma. It's a place where I hope to encourage other women that they are artists too. In this small little space I seek to share, document, and be reminded of God's wonderful grace, all around us. ....And I would be so happy to have you journey alongside me! So grab a cup of coffee and linger for a while. I hope you leave feeling refreshed. Photobucket

Acrylic in Progress

~~This is my latest work in progress. It's 14" x 18" acrylic on canvas. It's still in progress. I've just started on the shirt, the butterfly needs some refining, and the background will have some more work.
~~You may remember that a few weeks ago I started this same subject in acrylic. I was following a couple of different tutorials to help me and working in a way that was completely different than I normally do. Well, I didn't like the way it was turning out at all and I ended up abandoning it. That was very discouraging for me.
~~After about a week, I gathered my courage and decided to start over. This time I decided that I would paint in the same way that I do my colored pencil, slowly and in many layers. I used a gloss medium to make the paint more transclucent and began building up from the lights to the darks. This time I was much happier with the results.
~~This is something very new for me so I reallly would love to hear your thoughts and honest critiques. When I'm finished I will post more close-ups.
~~I'm hoping to finish it soon. This week looks like it will be very busy so, we'll see.

Hi Kasie!

This is very beautiful! Is there a way to soften the lines on her face? They look a little too rigid and makes her appear older than she is. I love the composition! You have a way with hair that is astounding!

Kasie,

Wow! Your second foray into acrylics is turning out quite successful. Looks great. Hope it's a good week!

Wow Kasie you have done a fabulous job. Yes i too would recommend softening the lines on the face maybe going over them with a another few lighter washes so you can still see the lines underneath.

The clothing looks great and i think you have done an absolutely marvelous job with the hair ... it all looks fantastic :)

Great job! I am loving this a lot! I too am into the layering thing lately and I think it seems to be the way to go. At least for me!

can't wait to see it finished!

Thank you everyone!
I'm noticing that it seems a bit harsher on the screen than it is in real life. I always have trouble getting an accurate picture.

Hi there!!
I love the effects!
Yes it is hard to leave a piece of work but I think the work that is valued is the lesson learned from the experience, it led you to this beautiful piece!! It is our culture to view the work we can see and not the work thathappens inside us...maybe?
Thanks for dropping by my blog, I love what you are doing!!

Great job so far! I agree about softening lines. The lighting you achieved is very nice, especially on her shoulder. Good composition, too! Can't wait to see this progress. :D
